【摘要】:BuildingproductsmadewithcaulksandsealantsareoftenusedforapplicationsforwhichTestMethodE84isusedforcompliancewithbuilding,lifesafetycodeormechanicalcoderequirements.Thispracticedescribes,indetail,specimenmountingproceduresforthosecaulksandsealantswhicharenotabletobesupportedbytheirownstructuralcharacteristicsduringthetest.Codesareoftensilentwithregardtotestingcaulksandsealantsfortheassessmentofflamespreadandsmokedevelopmentassurfaceburningcharacteristics.Thispracticedescribesspecimenpreparationandmountingproceduresforsuchmaterialsandproducts.Thematerialshallberepresentativeofthematerialsusedinactualfieldinstallations.ThelimitationsforthisprocedurearethoseassociatedwithTestMethodE84.1.1Thispracticedescribesproceduresforspecimenpreparationandmountingwhentestingcaulksandsealantsupto8in.(203.2mm)inwidthtoassessflamespreadandsmokedevelopmentassurfaceburningcharacteristicsusingTestMethodE84.Caulksandsealantsinexcessof8in.(203.2mm)aretobetestedinfullcoverageasappliedtofibercementboardasdescribedinTestMethodE84.1.2Thispracticeappliestocaulksandsealantsintendedforvarioususeswithinbuildings.Thecaulksandsealantsaddressedinthispracticearenotabletobesupportedbytheirownstructuralcharacteristicsduringthetest.1.3TestingisconductedinaccordancewithTestMethodE84.1.4Thispracticedoesnotprovidepass/failcriteriathatcanbeusedasaregulatorytool.1.5Thispracticedoesnotapplytomaterialsforwhichthetestspecimendoesnotremaininplacebeforeandduringthetestuntilmaximumflamepropagationhasoccurred.1.6Thispracticeisnotforsystemevaluation.Itisforthecomparisonofthematerialsonly.1.7Theresultsobtainedbyusingthismountingprocedureareconfinedtothematerialsthemselvesastestedandarenotcomparabletomaterialsthataretestedinafulltunnelwidthapplication.1.8Thisfirestandardcannotbeusedtoprovidequantitativemeasures.1.9Firetestingisinherentlyhazardous.Adequatesafeguardsforpersonnelandpropertyshallbeemployedinconductingthesetests.1.10Thisstandardgivesinstructionsonspecimenpreparationandmounting,butthefire-test-responsemethodisgiveninTestMethodE84.SeealsoSection9.1.11Thetextofthisstandardreferencesnotesandfootnoteswhichprovideexplanatorymaterial.Thesenotesandfootnotesshallnotbeconsideredrequirementsofthestandard.1.12Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.13Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
